A fair while back now, an incredibly powerful wizard called down meteor swarm to a shallow region of the sea. These meteors formed the great ringed islands of the Stellate Isles.

In these meteors was a mysterious material called Stellate, which amplifies magic to a degree previously thought impossible. The maps are drawn a hundred years after the first settling of the isles from Vildberg in Orlèan. A revolution in the west causes chaos for the local Duke of Velport. Led by a prisoner, who turned tyrant after finding the largest known clump of  Stellate and rising against the colonial power. The indigenous population to the north worship the material for its abilities, but their old ways of control and limitation are being strained as the imperialist powers to the south threaten each other, and them, with annihilation.
